Indie book fairs are places of discourse about (art) books, alternative forms of publication and publishing as a practice, as well as a great opportunity to discover, browse and network. With Between Books, a new format will be launched at the Düsseldorf Kunsthalle tomorrow, November 9, 2023.
From November 9 to 12, 2023, the first art book fair Between Books will take place at Kunsthalle Düsseldorf - a premiere for the state capital. A wide range of independent art book publishers, artists, independent publishing/DIY collectives, organizations, associations, zines and magazines have been invited to Between Books to present themselves to a broad audience in the exhibition spaces of Kunsthalle Düsseldorf.
Actors such as the Düsseldorf gallery and bookbindery Mergemeier, the independent photography magazine IN MY HANDS, the comic family business Willi Blöss Verlag, the funding project KRAUTin Verlag, Hilbert &Zellerhoff Gbr, which supports affordable publishing, and Werkstatt Buchlabor - together with a total of 75 exhibitors - show how versatile, exciting and contemporary print media can be.
When selecting exhibitors, the focus is on the local and regional publishing scene, but representatives from all over Germany and neighboring European countries will also be taking part, having been selected from the numerous applications submitted in an open call.
The exciting supporting program of Between Books includes book presentations, lectures, talks, performances and workshops. At this event, visitors can talk to bookmakers, listen to them or get active themselves: There is the opportunity to create your own zine, learn bookbinding or paper-making or even experience the Riso printer in action.
