We don't know if next year will be any less turbulent, but with our new calendar, it's sure to be an inspiring time. Great typography, great design, seven different papers and all produced to the highest environmental standards. We wish you a happy new year with the limited edition Grafikmagazin calendar 2023.
We are big fans of beautiful calendars, because they can be a real gem. We were therefore delighted when F&W Medien offered us the chance to design our own calendar for 2023. Absolute creative freedom and plenty of space for Grafikmagazin-Art Director Tobias Holzmann quickly realized that Type Design should play the leading role on this stage. "The design focuses on great typography," says Holzmann, "and I chose a different, very expressive display font for each month." Twelve very different fonts now merge on the calendar pages with graphic elements, some of which allude to the season.
Pleasing to the eye, good for the environment
The visual impression is further enhanced by the choice of paper. Seven different uncoated papers were used, giving the motifs an additional appeal with their bright white to natural colorations. What they all have in common is that they are made from 100 percent recycled paper and have been awarded the Blue Angel. It was important to F&W Medien not only to produce a calendar that is beautiful, but also to show that print products can be produced in an environmentally friendly way. Not only do the papers meet the highest environmental standards, the printing inks are also ecological and the entire printing process was carried out in accordance with the strict guidelines of the Blue Angel. "This calendar shows how design, printing and paper can merge harmoniously to create a beautiful print product," says Benedikt Wild from F&W Medien. "And it also shows that sustainable print production is a question of skill, but above all a question of will."
First and foremost, however, Wild and Holzmann agree that the calendar should be a beautiful object that surprises and inspires with a new motif every month.
