Die Neue Sammlung has once again brought something very special to the museum: Paula Scher presents her impressive works in the installation "Type Is Image", which can be admired at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich until September 22, 2024.

A dream has probably come true for Munich typography and graphic design enthusiasts: Paula Scher was able to display her works in part of the Neue Sammlung. And she has used the space like nobody else. A long corridor becomes a fully wallpapered poster surface, posters and letters hang from the high ceilings, display cases are given lettering as legs and the floor becomes a map of Germany á la Paula Scher.
The walk-in exhibition "Type is Image" represents the abundance and diversity of her work and, despite this, does not appear overloaded, but shows how excellently Paula Scher can use a space for herself and fill it with life. Visitors are given an insight into her broad artistic oeuvre, from her purely analog beginnings to her numerous works at Pentagram and her well-known handmade maps. Paula Scher's work is loud, stimulating and doesn't mince its words. We were thrilled and definitely recommend that you let yourself be carried away by her powerful works.
The artist's book accompanying the exhibition presents Paula Scher's visual language in a new way. It is not an exhibition catalog in the classic sense, but a large-format, unbound collection of posters with 101 posters from her entire oeuvre. The posters can be taken out individually, hung up and arranged according to your own taste. However, Paula Scher deliberately chose the arrangement of the posters in the booklet in order to create a new and creative interplay between two different poster halves on a double page. The designer, who has many years of experience, also proves here how excellently she can stage her works and at the same time combine them with functionality and added value. The artist's book can be purchased in the store at the Pinakothek der Moderne and at Walther König bookshops.
