The "Tiachi" project is the result of a collaboration between graphic designer Michael Wiethaus and textile designer Steffi Bauer in the Bavarian capital. It presents itself as a charming mixture of modern illustrations with traditional materials.
"Tiachi" could be misleadingly mistaken for a small scarf, but was woven as a high-quality blanket that can be used in a variety of ways: "For a picnic in the park, as a tablecloth, as a nap blanket or simply as a beautiful object on the couch," suggests Steffi Bauer. The textile designer is in her element - she enjoys collaborating with local artists and fashion designers to create unusual patterns. She particularly enjoys experimenting with different colors and materials; 100% organic cotton was used here, organically dyed and produced in Austria.
The illustrations are primarily by Michael Wiethaus, whose portfolio expresses his love of Bavarian characteristics and customs. Both Wiethaus and Bauer teach design subjects at the IFOG Academy for Communication Design in Munich.
For the photographic realization, the two worked with Kathrin Makowski and assistant Mali Wychodil, who supported them together with art director Daniela Weissbach on the visual concept for the ceiling shoot. For pandemic reasons, this still looks a little museum-like: "At the moment, stone figures surround our cloth," says Steffi Bauer, "but soon we hope the blanket will be lying in the sun with you and we'll all be brought back to life a little more!"
The blankets are available here just in time for the start of spring.
