We are offering a limited poster on Startnext, designed exclusively for Grafikmagazin. Now we're letting the cat out of the bag, this is what it will look like.
The poster was created by Swiss designer and letterpress printer Dafi Kühne. In his poster design, he used the term "new" typographically and thus celebrates the birth of the graphic magazine.
Dafi says: "A new printed magazine that relies on print in the age of digital media is fresh and old-fashioned - or traditional - at the same time. Who makes a printed magazine in 2021? Super cool!"
The contrast between the old technique and the fresh design - the history of lead typesetting and the current design - is taken up and visualized in the poster. Dafi Kühne works as a poster designer and implements his designs in letterpress printing using both old and new methods. For the design of the Grafikmagazin poster, blank lead typesetting material (bars and reglets, for those who still know the material) is brought to type height and printed in color. The new poster in sheet format 70x100cm will be produced in January 2021 on a letterpress from 1960. The theme of old and new is combined and printing has arrived in the 21st century.
