People have always been inspired by nature. With its focus on "Flora & Fauna", the new issue of Grafikmagazin also presents design ideas that show the colorful, opulent and sometimes even mystical side of botany. There is a lot of creative potential in nature that can be used for magazines, illustrations and interior design or visuals.
Good prospects
We present literally good prospects in our photography section in the form of the competition of the same name. For almost two decades, "gute aussichten" has been honoring up-and-coming talent and their photographic projects. Here, courage, experimentation and new perspectives are rewarded and shown what photography can be today. The exhibition "Mining Photography" shows the dark side of photography, namely the ecological footprint. It also makes it clear how closely the medium has always been linked to structures of power and exploitation.
The green search engine Ecosia, on the other hand, focuses on optimism. Not only does it boast a new look, but as a tech company with a focus on the common good, it has already planted over 150 million trees. Beate Hartwig examines why it is important how we experience something and appeals for a design that prioritizes the user experience in all areas.
Focus on self-presentation
In this issue, we are starting a new focus topic. We want to know the best way to present yourself as a designer. Sonja Pham spoke to a voice coach who helps people to build self-confidence and aplomb - the voice is an important tool here. Christmas will soon be here again and some studios and creative people like to show what they can do. But do lavish gifts really build customer loyalty? Do they generate more orders and visibility? We spoke to three studios about their experiences.
Graphics+ Flora & Fauna
It is no coincidence that many original creative projects are inspired by flora and fauna. In this issue's Grafik+, we showcase great works ranging from photographs and illustrations to spatial designs and visuals. The artist Susanne M. Winterling creates immersive works on the complex relationship between humans and nature, the Hungarian studio Nur equips a local fashion label with a visual identity and the designer duo from Vice Versa published an entire magazine on endangered insect species. An impressive, sculptural work by Studio Mary Lennox and digital artist Alexis Christodoulou provides the introduction to our magazine theme.
The cover
A photographic cover is always a rare highlight for us, which is why we are particularly pleased to not only present Studio Mary Lennox with an article in Grafikmagazin 05.22, but also with a cover motif. The Berlin-based creatives realized the "Done Cloud" project together with digital artist Alexis Christodoulou.
The unusual motif is shown to its best advantage by the material we used for the cover. Arctic Volume White from Arctic Paper makes the picture shine in all its details. A brilliant offset print from F&W Medien does the rest. It is always a special pleasure when design, paper and print harmonize perfectly - creativitiy at its best!
The showroom
In the showroom, you will meet the Swiss icon Celestino Piatti, an exceptional graphic talent who would have turned 100 this year and left behind an extensive visual legacy. We also feature the Munich studio PARAT.cc, which not only handles classic design commissions for clients, primarily from the cultural sector, but also runs the artist book publisher Edition Taube as a second mainstay. We travel to San Sebastián with Alain Villastrigo. There he set up his own business under the name Husmee, which means something like exploring things in a clever way. This imperative could also apply to the work of illustrator and author Max Kersting, whom we also introduce.
The Grafikmagazin podcast
For this portrait, we once again collaborated with the renowned creative podcastOhne den Hype. Its host Sven Jürgensmeier accompanied us for the interview, so that you can discover the conversation with Max Kersting on another level at the same time as the issue is published - wherever podcasts are available. Have fun listening!
