The Swedish paper manufacturer Arctic Paper recently launched a web-based app that allows graphics enthusiasts to create their own typographic animations. The Munken Creator allows creative people to use the Munken Sans font in a playful and experimental way. Under the title "Raising Questions", they can show how imagination can break all boundaries. The extensive project was conceived by the agency JUNO in cooperation with generative design expert Patrik Hübner.
Messages of change
The Munken Sans font dates back to 2020, when Munken made it available to the design community. Now it goes one step further - with the Munken Creator, the font can be stretched, modeled and rotated beyond recognition. The animations can be distorted in real time and the font can be combined as a living element with various images or backgrounds. Patrik Hübner was responsible for generative design and creative coding.
The theme of the entire project is "Raising Questions". The initiators wanted to emphasize how important the right questions are for our time. Arctic Paper is certain that they "open our minds to new challenges. Because good questions are messages of change."
Between analog creation and digital animation
The typo animations should be under this sign and explicitly also be used in real life: All messages created may be used for both classic print and web projects. The creations can be downloaded in moving image format or as .png or .pdf files. This means that there is no limit to the variety of applications, from book projects to projections on house walls. It can also be combined with augmented reality tools that merge analog and digital representations.
The Munken Creator in magazine format
But that's not all, because a paper manufacturer is at work here: a large-format magazine was published to mark the launch of Munken Creator. It contains a wealth of artwork created with the Munken Creator and shows how versatile the tool can be used and the artistic forms that can be created from it. The high-quality print magazine is digitally linked to the augmented reality app Artivive, creating new dimensions of perception.
The Munken Design Range used for this impresses with eight beautiful uncoated papers. In total, the range consists of four shades ranging from cream to bright white, each with two different surface structures. The natural papers are suitable for exclusive design projects and corporate identity applications thanks to their special feel and authenticity.
The paper manufacturer attaches great importance to sustainability - as do many designers. The entire Munken range has been awarded a bronze level certificate in accordance with the Cradle to Cradle Certified® product standard.
