At the end of the year, Grafikmagazin pulls out all the stops once again: a cover in three dazzling colors, rich screen printing and fine varnishing. With "Logo Design", this issue also presents a heavyweight of graphic design in terms of content. The Grafikmagazin shows print and design at their best.

At Grafikmagazin , we are particularly pleased when we can showcase projects that are not seen everywhere else. In this issue, for example, we present the "Wish Project" by German-Iranian Ghazaleh Miar, who illustrates the wishes of Iranian women with calligraphic alienations. In Ghana, only 14% of people have access to hygienic sanitary facilities; the start-up Washking is trying to remedy this situation with a good idea and appealing design. We also present two remarkable works in our photo section. The Femxphotographers.org collective is dedicated to the female gaze in photography and "The Lesbian Lives Project" documents the oppressive situation of lesbian women in South Africa.

In our "Design & Research" section, Mashine Rasuli shows how you can get excited about mathematics with humor and curiosity, the publication "dis/order" is dedicated to activists and artists in Russia and Mart Veldhuis has graphically processed the debt trap he fell into as a student - as a carpet. The focus is on self-expression. Ramon Haindl explains how he built up his own online network and Verena Bender reveals what personal branding is all about.

Logo Design
For Grafikmagazin 06.22, which focuses on "Logo Design", we talked to luminaries such as Jens Müller, Nadine Chahine and Achim Schaffrina and wanted to know why logos sharpen the perception of a brand so significantly, how to translate a logo into Arabic and what - often surprising - stories lie behind prominent examples. In addition, we introduce 1924us, a studio that uses completely antiquated methods for logo design, travel back to the 1960s and 1970s with Uruguayan designer Marcos Laghero or to contemporary Seoul, where Wolff Olins has given the Leeum Museum of Art a dynamic logo.
"The best logos are always the ones that contain a lot of content, but convey it in a subliminal, reduced way," Jens Müller told us in an interview. Incidentally, we once again collaborated with the renowned creative podcast Ohne den Hype. Its host Sven Jürgensmeier accompanied our editor-in-chief Christine Moosmann, so that you can listen to the conversation with the logo aficionado wherever podcasts are available at the same time as the issue is published.

The cover
For our cover, Tobias Holzmann took a playful approach to the symbolic nature of logos, combining fonts, overlaps and different color saturations to create a certain depth and dynamism. Thanks to screen printing, implemented by Stainer Schriften und Siebdruck, the colors are rich and vibrant, even when using three completely different paper colors from Igepa: We opted for the shimmering 285 gsm Stardream paper and combined a dark gray Anthracite, the bright gold tone Fine Gold and Citrine, a delicate light gray with a refined golden shimmer. The icing on the cake is the additional accent provided by partial spot varnish.

The showroom
In our showroom, we like to present iconic designers from past decades alongside contemporary players. For this issue, our correspondent Herbert Lechner portrayed the legendary illustrator Jean-Jacques Sempé, who would have turned 90 this year. We also feature Javier Jaén, a bright mind who was quite rightly named one of the 100 most creative Spaniards by Forbes. In an interview with André van den Bos, our author Niels Schrader captures a very unusual profession: The Dutchman works as a forensic photographer and takes us into a fascinating world of images. Last but not least, we spoke to Steven Watson, the founder of Stack Magazines, who finds the best independent magazines worldwide and delivers them to thousands of readers in the form of a monthly surprise subscription.
